Best nodes approach for alert message dissemination in VANET (BNAMDV) In the recent years, with the sharp increase of vehicles on the road, the transportation system become a major problem of our society, so it is necessary to develop, improve and make it more intelligent. This is globally known as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a projection of the ITS. It is a new technology which has attracted enormous attention nowadays and it aims to provide comfort for passengers, traffic safety and road efficiency. VANET offers potential and promising technical solutions to vehicular safety applications. Vehicular safety communication requires reliable and fast message delivery, usually by using the broadcasting technique for data dissemination in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). Broadcasting in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) has become an active area of research. However when the vehicles are next to each other trying to broadcast at the same time, this may lead to frequent contention and an excessive number of broadcasted packets will suffer from collision, thus causing broadcast storms. In this paper, we propose a new approach to improve performance of road safety alert application in VANET, by alleviating the broadcast storm problem.
