Impact of Information Technology among fishing community of Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu India in the twenty first century is a global player as a knowledge society, as an economically growing nation and a prosperous market. India is a confident nation. The world recognizes that it has great potential to develop further. After economic reforms in 1991, the decade following has seen growth primarily in sectors like IT (Information Technology) and IT- enabled services. In this connection Information technologies are being used across the fisheries sector, from resource assessment, capture to processing and commercialization. Information technology devices are playing vital role in enhancing the fishing industry. Integration of communication tools and information technologies devices in the fishing occupation is under way. Tamil Nadu state government is also actively utilizes devices like GPS, (Global Positioning System) Eco-sounders in the fisheries. This study is a quantitative analysis, and surveys a total of 200 active fishermen in Kanyakumari district headquarters. At the outset the proposed paper is trying to find out how information technologies GPS and Eco Sound are frequently and skilfully handled by fishermen. This paper also intended to study the purpose of using the technologies for economic development easy access to the masses in rural area particularly among fishermen community along with the coordinated efforts directed by clearly defined strategy for future development and growth of the fishing community.
